Sunrise, FL — January 23, 2026 — A perfect winter’s eve under cloud-free skies frames the Sunrise Amphitheater in Sunrise, Fl like a postcard, the warmth of South Florida’s January offering a welcome contrast to the deep freezes sweeping much of the rest of the nation. With temperatures hovering in the mid-70s, gentle breezes, and crystal clear air, tonight’s concert feels more like spring than late winter. It’s the ideal backdrop for rock fans gathering early on the lawn to stake their claim on a prime viewing spot. Although truth be told, there is no bad spot at this great outdoor venue.

The newly redesigned amphitheater reopened in 2025 as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to bolster community arts and live performances, proves its worth tonight. Open-air yet thoughtfully laid out, the space blends a generous lawn for blankets and chairs with tiered seating closer to the stage, providing both comfort and excellent sight lines for all. The sound system delivers crisp highs and rich lows that fills every corner of the venue. Food trucks, part of Sunrise’s Tunes ’N Trucks series with a wide variety of offerings, create a buzzing village atmosphere well before the first note strikes.

Among the night’s crowd is a palpable blend of longtime classic-rock devotees, families introducing younger generations to ’80s arena anthems, and casual passersby drawn by the lure of live music in near-perfect weather. Voices rise in sing-along choruses, smiles are everywhere, and even first-timers to the genre seem swept up in a sense of joy.

The night’s entertainment, Majesty of Rock  Fronting the band is John D’Agostino (vocals), the linchpin of Majesty of Rock, whose ear-splitting range channels the soaring spirit of Steve Perry, Dennis DeYoung, and Tommy Shaw with uncanny fidelity. Behind him, Rob Doyle (bass, vocals) lays down rich grooves and harmonies that anchor the ensemble. At the keyboards, Barry Gruber (keyboards, vocals) delivers lush textures from layers of synthesizers and piano that recall both Journey’s emotional ballads and Styx’s prog-inflected anthems. Rounding out the lineup is Daryl Tomas (guitar, vocals), whose deft fretwork evokes Neal Schon’s and Tommy Shaw’s signature tones.

Across more than a decade as one of the nation’s premier Journey and Styx tribute acts, Majesty of Rock perfects the art of faithful recreation, not mimicry, but channeling the vibe and spirit of those classic bands with a heartfelt reverence that resonates with audiences. The amazing setlist includes classic hits and fan favorites alike. Among the timeless songs the band performs are:

  • Don’t Stop Believin’ (Journey)
  • Wheel in the Sky (Journey)
  • Faithfully (Journey)
  • Separate Ways (Journey)
  • Come Sail Away (Styx)
  • Blue Collar Man (Styx)
  • Lights (Journey)
  • Stone in Love (Journey)
  • Lady (Styx)
  • Open Arms (Journey)
  • Grand Illusion (Styx)

The band builds a nonstop wave of energy. Crowd favorites like “Separate Ways” and “Lights” bring the lawn to life, voices soaring, feet tapping, and blankets vibrating with every thundering drum hit. D’Agostino’s vocal acrobatics stand out, especially on the operatic swells of “Faithfully” and the theatrical journey of “Grand Illusion.” Gruber’s keyboards are an unsung highlight, weaving the synth hooks that anchor so many classic tracks into the open-air mix with precision and flair.

The amphitheater’s food truck row is a festival in itself before the show starts. Diners are queued for savory bites from local favorites. Conversations buzz about where the next show will be, what songs will be played, and how much everyone is looking forward to the night ahead. The mix of families, longtime fans, and couples out for a date night create an atmosphere that is festive, relaxing, communal  and yet intensely focusing on the music.

Tonight, Majesty of Rock doesn’t just play a tribute show, they bring an era back to life under the Florida moon. Between the perfect weather, the joyful crowd, and a venue that feels built for nights like this, the January calendar may feel barren elsewhere, but here in Sunrise, Fl, classic rock feels evergreen.
